You will also develop knowledge of key laws and guidance such as the Mental Capacity Act, Equality Act, and Care Act and understand how to protect individuals from abuse, neglect, and discrimination.

Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities

Unit 2

Safeguarding and protection of individuals with learning disabilities 

Unit 3

Introduction to personalisation for individuals with learning disabilities 

Unit 4

Principles of positive risk-taking for individuals with learning disabilities 

Unit 5

Awareness of autistic spectrum conditions 

Unit 6

Understand ways of supporting individuals with a learning disability to access healthcare

On Completion

Upon completion, you will have developed the knowledge required to support individuals with learning disabilities in a compassionate, person-centred, and professional way. You will be able to recognise different needs, promote independence, communicate effectively, and understand my responsibilities under key legislation. This knowledge will prepare you to make a positive impact in the health, public services and care sector settings.

Eligibility Criteria
  1. You must currently live in a Non-Devolved Area of England or the Great London Area (GLA). If you live in GLA you must evidence you have permission to remain here for the next 365 days. You must have residency to be in the UK/EEA for the purposes other than study when enrolling onto the course.
  2. You must be over the age of 19 or older (on 31 August 2024) and be able to fully commit to this course.
  3. You must have the relevant ID to register for this course. (passport, visa/permit, birth certificate or driving licence and proof of address within the last 3 months)
  4. You must not have done this qualification at the same or higher level previously.

The course is delivered remotely and you will need a laptop or computer to be able to access and study on this course.
